At Home Reading Requirements for the
Mrs. McDonald's class
Due dates will be posted on the class website: mcdonaldlanguagearts8.weebly.com
Students will be required to read a book on their own during each six week unit. Students are encouraged to have their book with them each day. If students finish an assignment early, they can read. Each unit will have a different type of book report, which will be due at the end of each unit. Book reports are usually worth 50 points.
Unit 1 (August-September)-
Genre: fiction by an author that you have signed up for.
Format: two-sided bookmark – author study/book report
Unit 2 (October-November)
Genre: fiction
Format: a list of choices will be provided
Unit 3 (December-January)
Genre: non-fiction
Format: a list of choices will be provided
Unit 4 (February-March)
Genre: free choice
Format: argument essay
Unit 5 (March-April)
Genre: historical fiction or non-fiction book about the Holocaust
Format: newspaper book report
Unit 6 (April-May)
Students will read and analyze song lyrics during our last unit.
Format: lyric analysis
